No bachelor’s degree? Your experience may still open a UK master’s.
Some UK universities look beyond certificates and assess what you’ve learned at work. It’s called Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
- 5 years after Plus Two
- 3 years after a diploma
- Relevant work experience
What is Recognition of Prior Learning?
RPL is a way for universities to give credit for learning you gained outside formal education, through work, training or professional practice. Where a university allows it, strong experience can stand in for a missing undergraduate degree on selected postgraduate courses.
Typical experience required
How to build a strong application
- Experience letters from employers with dates, roles and responsibilities.
- A detailed CV showing progression, achievements and any supervisory duties.
- A statement of purpose explaining why this course fits your career.
- Any training certificates or professional qualifications.
Frequently asked questions
Will a master’s earned this way be a full UK degree?
Yes. You receive the same master’s degree as other students on the course.
Which courses accept experience instead of a degree?
Most commonly business, management and MBA-style programmes. Availability changes, so we confirm the current options.
Does the visa officer accept this?
The visa depends on the university issuing a CAS. Once admitted, the usual Student visa rules apply, including funds and English.
