What studying at a French public university costs
The French state sets annual registration fees for public universities. For students from outside the EU, these have been around €2,900 a year for a bachelor’s (licence) and about €3,950 a year for a master’s, a small share of the true cost of teaching. On top of that, universities can exempt a portion of international students from these fees, and some programmes are effectively tuition-free.
Life as a student in France
- Students can usually work up to 964 hours a year, about 60% of full-time.
- Many master’s programmes are taught in English.
- Graduates may be eligible for a post-study residence permit to look for work.
