- Announced 11 Aug 2025
What is the National Planning Level?
The National Planning Level (NPL) is the Australian Government’s target for how many new overseas students universities and colleges can enrol each year. Each provider receives its own share. When a provider gets close to its allocation, student visa processing for that provider can slow down.
What you should do now
- Shortlist universities and courses early.
- Prepare your English test and financial documents in advance.
- Write a clear Genuine Student statement explaining your study goals.
Frequently asked questions
Does the cap apply to all courses?
The NPL covers most new overseas student enrolments across higher education and vocational education. Some groups may be treated differently, so ask us about your course.
Will visa processing be faster?
More places can reduce pressure, but processing still depends on your provider and the quality of your application.
Which intake should I target?
February and July are the main intakes. We’ll recommend one based on your readiness.
