Study, work and stay: New Zealand makes it practical.

More part-time work hours, generous post-study visas and closely monitored education quality are good news for Indian students.

  • Up to 3 years post-study
  • 8 universities
  • NZQA quality assurance

Key benefits for students

25 hours a weekFrom November 2025, eligible students can work up to 25 hours a week during study, up from 20.
Post-study workGraduates of eligible bachelor’s (Level 7) or master’s (Level 9) programmes can get an open work visa of up to three years.
Quality assuredNew Zealand’s eight universities and its polytechnics are quality-monitored, with NZQA overseeing standards.

From study to residence

Post-study work experience in a skilled job can open pathways to residence through Immigration New Zealand’s skilled migrant settings. The right course, combined with relevant work after graduation, makes a big difference.

Pay after approval in principle

Immigration New Zealand often issues an “approval in principle” first. You then pay your tuition fees, and the visa is granted. That means you’re not paying full fees before you know your visa is likely to be approved.

Visa and residence settings change. Work-hour limits, post-study work rules and residence criteria are updated by the government. This post reflects the rules as of September 2025.
